The unique beaded bracelets at Lottie Bogotti are genuinely unique because not only are the designs one-offs but so too are the materials. Antique, vintage and pre-owned necklaces are, when in poor condition, broken down and the beads recycled into new designs to keep the materials in circulation and reduce the amount of new materials being taken from the planet.

This means you get the best of both worlds with Lottie Bogotti bracelets as not only do they look contemporary, they also contain materials of super quality, often hand cut or hand faceted, and sometimes either rare or impossible to buy new.

Part of the charm in the pieces is the fact a lot of the beads were made by hand and are therefore irregular. Many of the hand blown glass beads have also been faceted by hand conjuring up images of a man sitting at a grinding machine with a tiny bead creating sometimes over one hundred facets, each of a slightly different shape and size. This kind of quality cannot be bought new. No-one makes them like this anymore.

The jewellery has a subtle, expensive quality which new jewellery lacks. The Bakelite beads have faded to tints of their original bright colours, the coral has a dusky look, the mother of pearl is creamy and flashes beautifully, the wood beads are smooth and mellowed like antique furniture, the agate beads have pits, lines and inclusions adding character which is rarely seen in new jewellery.

On a final note, the bracelets at Lottie Bogotti is of value and will at least hold its value. The materials used are real as opposed to most costume bracelets. For example, most of the coral used is Mediterranean coral taken from antique necklaces. Mediterranean coral jewellery is set to increase in value rapidly once stocks in the sea have been depleted which, unfortunately, they probably will be.

It shows more individual style and prudence to buy antique, vintage or these re-designed unique beaded bracelets rather than their brand new equivalent.

How to measure for a bracelet

If you are considering buying a bracelet for yourself of someone else before trying it on, it is important to measure yourself or your friend before choosing.

As a general rule, add 1.5cm to your wrist circumpherence for simple bracelets which have little bulk to them. Chunky bracelets will leave a smaller internal circle when fastened than simple, thin bracelets so add more the chunkier the bracelet.

If a bracelet is bought and is not the right size, you can return it for a refund of its cost.
