Ibiza
Ibiza (Eivissa) is one of three Balearic Islands off the coast of Southern Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. It has an all year resident population of over 100 000 people and a land mass of over 200 square miles. The local language is Ibicenc, which is very similar to Catalan, and the Ibiza currency is the Euro.
The island's capital is Ibiza Town which is home to Dalt Vila, the old fortified part of the city with its cathedral, and the relatively modern part containing the port and the Paseo Maritimo.
The island is famous for its hippie connections due to the world's hippies visiting in the 60s and 70s, and many staying on to live. With its international and cosmopolitan population of artistic flair, free thinking and tranquility, the island has a very envigorating personality.
Although many people visit the island for its world reknowned nightclubs, another major attraction is its beautiful beaches, agroturismo hotels (rural tourism) and fine restaurants. Ibiza accommodation is diverse but a growing sector is rural tourism and large hotels are now incentivised to become more eco-friendly.
