Lottie Bogotti : The eco-friendly shop
Every effort is made to make Lottie Bogotti the most eco-friendly shop in Ibiza, and maybe even the most eco-friendly shop in Spain, and to therefore reduce its environmental footprint. Here are some of the efforts made...
1. Nothing is sold that has not been previously owned unless made from old materials. Some things may never have been used or worn but they will always have been owned before. This means nothing has been manufactured for the purpose of being sold in Lottie Bogotti and, visa versa, Lottie Bogotti has not fueled the manufacturing of anything made of new materials.
2. No new materials are used, when pre-owned ones are easily sourced, in the making of eco-friendly clothing, bags, purses, etc. Even zips and buttons are removed from shirts, trousers, skirts and bags and re-used in the making of recycled handbags. A scavengers attitude is kept at all times. This is not just to protect the planet but also to add character to handmade crafts and because new materials tend to stand out and look garish. Please note...the use of new materials would certainly be cheaper and easier on the back, fingers and eyes!
3. All price tags are made by hand in-house reducing the need for postal deliveries and energy usage. Recycled card is used for the tags and the cotton strings are used several times over. Plastic ticket strings are never used.
4. Eco-friendly packaging at Lottie Bogotti consists of the use of several sizes of recycled brown bags, re-using bubble wrap to the point none ever needs to be bought and asking the customer if they need a bag. Stocking various sizes of bag means a close fit can be achieved and therefore less material wastage.
5. Almost all the lights are switched off at night and whenever the shop is closed. All cabinets are fitted with diode lighting which uses less energy and the bulbs never need to be replaced.
6. All the display furniture and fixtures are either antique or pre-owned and revamped to match the style of the shop.
7. The walls are painted with water based paint which emits low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
8. The furniture renovated and for sale at Lottie Bogotti has been finished using mostly water based paint and varnish with low volatile organic compound emissions.
9. No mass leaflet or flyer distributions are made to publicise Lottie Bogotti reducing paper, ink and electricity usage. Most promotions are word of mouth or via email and the internet.
10. Goods are either not packaged when they are brought to Lottie Bogotti for sale, or they are packaged in second hand materials.
11. Lottie Bogotti will never be having a refit. It will simply evolve.
Areas for improvement.
Lottie Bogotti would be interested in sourcing:-
1. jewellery boxes made using recycled materials for rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc, at reasonable prices.
2. an eco-friendly alternative to organza bags in various small sizes.
3. eco-friendly blank, tri-fold greeting cards with windows with self adhesive strips.
Please contact Lottie Bogotti if you can supply these, or if you know who can, to help make Lottie Bogotti become the most eco-friendly shop in Europe!
