Eco-friendly Living Tips
To add your eco-friendly living tips, particularly concerning the home, please contact Lottie Bogotti.
1. Take eco-friendly shopping bags or wicker baskets to the shops or re-use plastic carrier bags if you use them. They can be used to line rubbish or refuse bins, or as an alternative to nappy bags.
2. Cut up clothes and towels that are beyond repair and use as cleaning and polishing cloths. If you want to be very eco-friendly you could hem or edge stitch squares of towel and use as dish cloths.
3. Use the washing machine when you have a full load, checking for potential colour runs beforehand to ensure nothing will get spoilt. Wash at 30 degrees to save energy and reduce pollution. Wash outside, and not in the tumble drier, and benefit from the natural air freshening effect of your clothes when you bring them inside.
4. Pass on your children's clothes to friends and family, or give to charity shops. Buy their clothes and toys from charity shops as they get worn and used so little they have many lives in them.
5. Get out of the sets mentality. Buy odd pieces of crockery, cuttlery, pots, pans, bedding and soft furnishings from charity and vintage shops rather than buying new sets which become spoilt when even just one thing is broken or damaged. Go for the eclectic look rather than the brand spanking new and perfect look. You will find, in time, you will have more affection for your collection of strangely matching oddments than you ever had for your sets.
Eco or green living does not mean going without or sacrificing style. In fact, it does encourage you to create your own style and not the one dictated to you by the media.
