Church of San Carlos, Ibiza

San Carlos church, a large white washed building of typical Ibicencan construction, dominates the village due to its relatively large size and central location. This is a reflection of the importance the church had during its infancy and still has in modern day San Carlos. Marriages, Christenings and funerals are held regularly throughout the year and Christmas and Easter is still very much a religious celebration in the village.

The construction of the church started in 1786, is a rectagular shape, was constructed using sandstone and lime mortar, is covered with white lime plaster and has a juniper roof. The interior is split into five sections, some of which are chapels and some housing for the priest.

Part of the construction is the parish hall which hosts, at the end of the tourist season, the annual International Piano Competition.

Mass is held at the church from Monday to Saturday at 5pm and on Sunday at 11am. This is the best time to see the church in action or to talk to the priest.
